25 Years ago today
25 years ago today. This was our first work of art. Let me say she is a real masterpiece. Happy Birthday Natalie.

Wow, one year later. They are an adorable couple and still seem madly in love. One of those days in a parents life that is so joyous it is hard to describe. Love you Sean and Stacey.
Ho Ho Parade
The city annual Ho Ho Parade was last night. The whole neighborhood was out in force. Here are some pics from the fun. Enjoy!

December Sunday
Danielle decided to make sugar cookies. We took the easy way out with this.
Just add water and eggs, and a cup of flour if you want to roll them out. This below is our Flour bucket and our Just add water pancake mix bucket. Ooops! Danielle didn't know. she liked the way the blue clear bucket looked so thats what she used for her cup of flour.
The dough tasted ok so we figured the cookies would.
Look at that girl go.
They tasted very good and yummy.
I was wrapping presents while she decorated.

2nd Saturday Art Walk
This is the 2nd Saturday Art Walk in Downtown Pomona. If you want an interesting excursion this is it. It doesn't matter how old you are, what you look like, where you come from, where you are going, what you are wearing or what you want to wear. You will fit into this crowd.
The 2nd Saturday the galleries stay open until 9:00.
We dragged Danielle along and after we were there for a while told her she was never allowed to come down here without us. No not even with friends. We had visions of her saying to her friends, " hey you want to go to a really funky place and see freaky stuff?"
Here are Connie and Mark. This was Marks idea. Good idea Mark.
This is "your grandma is a cow".
There was a gallery that was doing a tea ceremony. They had all kinds of tea sets. They were really amazing. The color on this one was gorgeous. The picture doesn't do it justice. I think this was Armstrongs Gallery.
The exhibit at the American Museum of Ceramic Art was my favorite. They had an exhibit :
On the River Through the Valley of Fire, Works by Frank Boyden and Tom Coleman. The ceramic pottery was beautiful and interesting. They also had a great movie going showing how the pottery was made. Here is an example:
There was a very bright moon out and a lot of interesting sights. This was taken by the Glass House. There was also a very interesting parade. Let me see if I can describe it accurately. People dressed like Angels and Devils. A black Hearse. A man dressed in white with large feathery white wings ( think of John Travolta in the movie Michael). The white winged guy is pushing a large something or other with a fire burning in it. Everyone was chanting "we are going to burn the devil down". Strange since most of the people were dressed like the devil or carrying large devil pictures. Hence the remark made to Danielle about never going down there without us. All the galleries weren't high class. One of them was selling art for $5.00 -$15.00.
Finally we stopped at a Mexican Bakery. They were doing a booming business. There was an entire wall covered with cases full of Mexican pastries. You just grab a large tray and some tongs and pull out what you want. They were huge and only 30 cents. Ken got a yummy cinnamon pastry and Danielle went for the Mexican Mango Popsicle which I will add was $1.30. We splurged on her since she had been such a good sport.
At the end of the evening we were lucky to get out of there without trouble from the Popo since these two were up to no good.

Snow
Here in California , or at least where I live, we don't get snow. Unless of course you count the time we had some freak storm and it snowed and the snow lasted about an hour and you could still see all the green through it anyways. The only way we are going to enjoy the snow is to take a drive up into the local mountains at exactly the right moment or to look at it in a movie or better yet a book.
Let me recommend Stranger in the Woods by Carl R. Sams II & Jean Stoick. This is indeed , as printed on the cover, a photographic fantasy. Since I love children's books and Photography this book is a double delight. I have shared it with children who are ages 3-5 and they love this book. The photos are beautiful. The book is full of animals from the forest as well as a stranger who has a wonderful surprise and of course lots of snow.

I tried, guess what I've been doing, and another book
First matter of business --- I tried. I tried to change the background color of my blog and I couldn't handle it. I just like the bright white. It looks clean and matches everything. So enjoy the white.
Guess what I've been doing?
That's right -- Christmas decorating. Ok, can I just say it was exhausting. Dragging out all the boxes. Going through them and hucking and chucking all the old cruddy stuff that I don't want any more. Then deciding where to put it all. And why does it make such a mess. Anyways at the end of day 1 I had everything done but no tree up yet. I was pooped. Day 2 I put the tree up and now I can finally enjoy . I also have the pine scented candle burning to make me think I have a real tree.
I love to see all the ornaments. Many have special memories. This one was always on our Christmas tree when I was growing up. It is a little pixie fairie. It was one of my favorites and I can remember I always wanted to be the one who got to hang it on the tree. Thanks Mom for giving it to me!
This next ornament was given to Ken and I the year we were married. We had the saddest little Charlie Brown Christmas tree and this may have been the only ornament on it.
The sad part is that it actually fell off the tree and broke ( the floor was asphalt tile). I was so sad. Right after christmas I was with my Mom and they had the same ornament at the store for something like 75% off. We were so poor but I was able to scrape up the small amount to replace the broken one. It says Christmas is quiet moments together. I think that should be our theme this year. I like the idea of a quiet Christmas with the ones I love most.
And finally.........
Another Christmas book recomendation. Olivia Helps With Christmas by Ian Falconer. I think I could have used some help from Olivia or maybe not! This book is so funny. I love Olivia. I think everyone knows at least one child like her. The illustrations are really telling the story while the words tell us another story.
The best picture is the last one in the book but I am not going to give it away. Go to the library or bookstore and check it out for yourself. You will love Olivia's enthusiasm to help and maybe understand a little better where your own children are coming from when it may seem like they aren't any help at all.
