Channel Islands Here We Come

We are packing up and getting ready to go. This is not the half of it. Please note that all clothing and refrigerator foods are missing from this pile. Oh yeah and 4 kayaks and six people. Also please note that big fur blanket is not going. Here is some of our Kayaking gear. Ken is planning on defending us from a sea monster with that rather large scary knife. Good thing we have a first aid kit to go with that knife.

All the really important stuff has been packed: Dramamine, Oreo Cookies, Sunscreen, and bathing suits.

Two Day Get Away

We had a little two day get away that was great. We took Bella down to Corona Del Mar State Beach to practice anchoring. Danielle had a friend she met at EFY that was visiting Newport Beach so we picked her family up in Newport Harbor gave them the Harbor cruise then sent Danielle with them for the night.

Next we went over to Corona Del Mar to anchor. It went great. We actually worked good together and got it done in a jiff. Then we kayaked and cooked a really great dinner and relaxed.

This is the rope that was very tangled. Ken Untangled it. Lisa watched. Looks brand new like it had never been used. It is used now.
These are the paddles. They were new too. They aren't new anymore.

This is me in the kayak wearing my hunchback-push-up-life-vest. Looks great!

This is a strange sea creature that was swimming around near the boat. Don't tell anyone but I caught him and brought him home.

We had a great time. Ken swam onto the beach and then we took the Kayak out. We picked up Danielle up in the afternoon in the harbor and made our way back to Long beach. I was sun burned and pooped out when we got home and my brain is still rocking inside my head just a bit.

Getting Ready

We are starting to get ready for our vacation. It is only two weeks away and since it is essentially like camping on the water we have lots of prep. Not to mention the fact that we must make sure that we have all the toys needed for ultimate fun. Today we picked up our new Ocean Kayaks. They look like loads of fun. Each one will seat 2 people and a small child or dog. We don't have a small child or a dog. Anyone have any great ideas of what we can carry with us instead. How about chips and salsa?

Wheat

This may very well be the most exciting post you ever read here. Wheat. That's right. Last night Ken and I canned 60 cans of wheat, thats 300 lbs., thats a year supply for one person. I am having visions of having to use that wheat. I see myself opening that can looking at that beautiful wheat and then saying, "Now what?" Does anyone have a recipe for Frosted Mini Wheats, or perhaps someone can tell me how to actually get wheat bread to rise. I hear if you put raw wheat in your mouth and chew for a really long time it's like chewing gum. I always really have liked gum.

Let Freedom Ring!

circa 1997

Happy Fourth everyone. This photo is of Danielle back in the day. She was selected by the city Preschool to be on the 4th of July parade float. She was so excited and waved her flag like a professional down Euclid Avenue. We have already had our pancake breakfast and are looking forward to sailing in Long Beach where we will watch the fireworks show in the Harbor. If you don't have a fireworks show in your plans create your own right here.

I am grateful to live right here in the good old USA. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, " I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him". Let's all make America proud.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Ken. I have to say this guy is definitely the man of my dreams. You can see that even as a young'un he had a lot of enthusiasm.

Wow, he doesn't look much different now from when he was 19. And he still has those big muscles.

He has stuck with me through the good times......

and the not so good times........

He looks hot in a suit and even hotter in a tux

He takes his family on great adventures

He shows appreciation for all the gifts his kids give him....

He loves to play and get dirty.....

Hes a great Bishop

He has a great sense of humor

Best of all he is ours and we love him
