Scary People

It's been a while since I posted a favorite children's book. I had the luxury last week of spending some time in the children's book section at Borders just browsing through some great books. I found this new little treasure hot off the press.

the little bit SCARY people
written by Emily Jenkins and illustrated by Alexandria Boiger

Some people are a little bit STRANGE,
or a little too LOUD,
or a tiny bit MEAN.
Some people are just
A LITTLE BIT SCARY.
But I bet
if you knew them--
if you knew what they like for breakfast,
and how they treat their pets,
and how they sing along to show tunes
or read cowboy stories on the couch--
then you
you'd know that maybe
(probably)
most people aren't so scary after all.

The illustrations are perfect and go along with the great message of the book.

People really aren't that scary at all.

Artists at work

Danielle has always been a great artist. She had a non art phase for about 2 years. This phase started about the same time as High School and Waterpolo. This summer she started spending time being her artistic self again and now she is taking art in school.

Mark is our fabulous friend who just graduated with a degree in Art. He is hoping to teach art at a High school or Jr. college someday soon. He got his hands on this huge tarp and has been going crazy with splattering paint. He has done some incredible art using his paint flinging. (sorry for all the technical art talk) He invited Danielle over to experiment and have some fun getting really messy with paint.

Lisa (that's me) was very happy to have Danielle go to Marks house to make messy with paint. I start to hyperventilate when paint, dye, mud or other messy things are flying at my house.

These are some pics of some of the fun they had.

Love that orange and yellow. You can't tell from the pictures but Danielle's hands and feet were covered with paint and splatters.

This is all the fun paint and other gooey things and tools Danielle had to work with.

Here they are making art magic. Mark is a great teacher. Great suggestions, encouragement and crazy paint flinging are just a few of his talents.

What does it need now?

Danielle had a blast and can't wait to do it again. Thanks Mark for being so much fun and sharing you paints, canvas, tools and driveway. Thanks Connie for finding that outrageously huge tarp and bringing it home to Mark. Thanks Danielle for being so cute even with a big orange dot on your face.

Cruisin'

We had a great time on Saturday at Chubbys picking out some beach cruisers. We test rode several and found the ones we had to have. Chubbys is in Los Angeles on La Cienega. Great part of LA. The store was tiny and crammed full of cruisers.

Danielle picked out this cute Orange Creame sickle bike. She has her basket and her bell and is set to go. I can't wait to take these down to the beach and cruise!

One Year

On Friday it will have been one year since Natalie went on her mission. I'll never forget that day. She was so nervous and very emotional. We both had tears all morning. We both hate good-byes. She was definitely ready for her new adventure. Sometimes it seams like she has been gone forever. When I think about her being home in six months it feels like that is so soon.

One thing is for sure. She is loving her mission. There have been difficult times but mostly great times. She seems to have fallen in love with the country, the people and the language.

I can't wait until March when I can get my arms around this girl and give her a big hug and talk to her and laugh with her.

Back to School

Katey went back to school on Friday. We will miss her. I always hear stories of parents who are tearing their hair out because their college kids are home and driving them crazy. Well you won't hear that story from us. Katey is so easy to have around. She always is respectful of the house rules and tells us where she is going and what she is up to. She is helpful and happy. I am going to miss her. I am excited for her to get back to her friends and her schooling and her social life and (hopefully) her new job. This picture was taken the day before she left. She is sporting a new hair do. She has her funky, fun style and is ready to go.
